Dow Corning Experts Share Advanced Lubrication Techniques at NLGI 76th Annual Meeting
As part of its ongoing commitment to knowledge sharing and best practices, a team of Dow Corning experts presented advanced lubrication and maintenance techniques at the 76th National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI) Annual Meeting, held June 13–16 in Tucson, Arizona.
Dave Como, Dow Corning scientist emeritus and NLGI educational committee member, emphasized the importance of collaboration: “Dow Corning is proud to represent the company at NLGI, educating and partnering with manufacturers, suppliers, and engineering services to streamline operations in an increasingly challenging global business environment.”
Como, an executive board member of NLGI, chaired the Applications & Maintenance course—an initiative he launched five years ago that has become a cornerstone of the organization’s educational program.
Application engineers Chad Chichester and Glenn Lutz led course segments focused on cost‑effective lubrication and maintenance strategies that drive profitability and operational capacity.
Chichester, a 2007 NLGI SOPUS Award winner for instructional excellence, drew on 13 years of reliability engineering experience to share methods that reduce downtime, lower maintenance costs, and boost overall efficiency. He highlighted techniques applicable to both the NLGI Applications & Maintenance and Basic Grease courses, covering fundamental principles of grease manufacturing and marketing.
Lutz instructed the NLGI Advanced Grease Education course, delving into the chemistry and specialized applications of greases—including tests, soap manufacturing, steel‑mill greases, silicone greases, and food‑grade lubricants. His focus on high‑value specialty silicone greases showcased the unique benefits these products offer in solving complex lubrication challenges.
The NLGI is a not‑for‑profit trade association dedicated to advancing grease technology and providing industry education. It promotes its mission through research, enhanced laboratory and field testing, and improved manufacturing techniques.
