Hydraulic Institute Invites Qualified Reviewers for Updated ANSI/HI 11.6 Submersible Pump Test Standard
The Hydraulic Institute (HI), authorized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), invites qualified professionals in North America to review the draft of the updated standard ANSI/HI 11.6 – Submersible Pump Tests. Qualified reviewers can contribute to shaping the future of pump testing and assurance.
Qualified reviewers may contact Karen Anderson, Technical Affairs Administrator, at kanderson@Pumps.org or 973‑267‑9700, ext. 123.
This revision departs from previous standards by requiring the entire submersible pump unit to be guaranteed and tested. When a manufacturer offers an efficiency or power guarantee, the guarantee applies to the complete unit—wire‑to‑water efficiency and electrical input power are verified in addition to flow and head. The standard outlines how acceptance testing should be performed and defines clear acceptance criteria.
Unlike earlier guidelines, the standard does not break down losses within the pump unit; it treats the unit as an integrated system. Therefore, calculating efficiency for individual components such as the motor, seals, bearings, or cooling system can produce misleading data and should not be used to determine unit acceptability.
North American entities that are directly impacted—pump users, specifiers, manufacturers, standards developers, government agencies, and industry groups—are encouraged to contact HI. A comprehensive canvass list will be compiled and submitted to ANSI to ensure an open, balanced review process.
HI Pump Standards are trusted references for users, consultants, contractors, manufacturers of pumps, seals, motors, instrumentation, controls, and software developers. HI releases new standards in response to industry needs, and its full library is available in electronic and print formats via the HI eStore: https://eStore.Pumps.org or by calling 973‑267‑9700, ext. 118.
