Hydraulic Institute Unveils Updated ANSI/HI 3.6 – 2010 Standard for Rotary Pump Tests

The Hydraulic Institute (HI) has refreshed its ANSI/HI Standard for Rotary Pump Tests, now released as ANSI/HI 3.6 – 2010, Rotary Pump Tests. The new standard, available immediately for purchase at https://www.eStore.Pumps.org, costs $75.

Key updates include a single‑column layout for easier navigation, larger graphics, and expanded terminology sections. The standard also introduces a formula for calculating pump output power, ensuring precise performance assessment.

Designed for industrial and commercial rotary positive‑displacement pumps, ANSI/HI 3.6 – 2010 details hydrostatic and performance testing procedures, along with acceptable deviations for Type III and Type IV tests. It provides a unified framework for demonstrating a pump’s mechanical and hydraulic reliability.

Gregg Romanyshyn, HI’s technical director, notes, “The standard delineates two performance test levels, allowing users to select tolerances that match application and customer needs. Hydrostatic and Net Positive Inlet Pressure tests are optional, while vibration and acoustical testing remain excluded.”

Leading manufacturers—Flow Solutions Group, IMO Pump (Colfax), Intelliquip, Leistritz, Milton Roy Americas, Moyno, Roper Pump, Siemens Water Technologies, and Weir Floway—contributed to the committee that crafted this revision.

HI’s pump standards are trusted references for users, consultants, contractors, manufacturers, and system integrators. The updated ANSI/HI 3.6 – 2010, along with the full suite of HI standards, is available in electronic and print formats via the HI e‑Store (https://eStore.Pumps.org) or by calling 973‑267‑9700, ext. 118.
