Ferraz Shawmut Rebrands as Mersen, Unifying 125 Years of Circuit Protection Expertise

On June 16, Ferraz Shawmut announced it will operate under the new name Mersen, aligning its global brand with Carbone Lorraine’s unified identity.

"The name change reflects our history and, more importantly, our strategic direction," said Daniel Beaudron, vice president and general manager for MERSEN USA Newburyport‑MA, LLC.

For more than 125 years, Ferraz Shawmut has delivered a broad portfolio of circuit‑protection solutions. Since 1999, it has been part of Carbone Lorraine, a leading Paris‑based group that supplies high‑performance materials for extreme environments and enhances the reliability and safety of electrical systems. All of Carbone Lorraine’s subsidiaries—including Ferraz Shawmut—have adopted the Mersen brand.

In recent years the company has expanded its focus through four key growth drivers: sustainable development, Asia, selective acquisitions, and innovation. This strategy builds on an international commercial network that has been strengthened by new plants equipped with cutting‑edge technology. Central to the transformation is a reinforced culture of expertise and dedicated solutions that keep the company closely aligned with customer needs.

"We have not been purchased," Beaudron clarified. "The name change reflects a corporate‑wide strategic initiative to unify our vision, product solutions and markets. Over time, we found that our various subsidiaries were catering to the same markets with complementary product solutions. In a global marketplace, it just makes sense to operate under one name. It focuses us all on a common goal."

The company’s established product brands—such as Amp‑Trap 2000 fuses, Surge‑Trap surge‑protective devices, UltraSafe fuse modules, TPMOV technology, and Tri‑Onic class RK 5 fuses—will remain unchanged.
