ISMI Launches RAMCalc: Web‑Based Tool for SEMI E10‑Standard Equipment Reliability Metrics
International SEMATECH Manufacturing Initiative (ISMI) today unveiled RAMCalc, a cloud‑based calculator that captures, aggregates, and reports key reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) metrics for semiconductor manufacturing equipment at the equipment, module, and wafer levels. The tool aligns with the SEMI E10 standard, the industry benchmark for measuring equipment performance.
Engineered for both single‑path and complex multi‑path cluster tools, RAMCalc automatically computes:
- Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
- Mean Time To Repair (MTTR)
- Mean Time Off Line (MTOL)
- Availability
The basic, single‑path version is available to the public free of charge and is ideal for standalone or non‑clustered manufacturing equipment. A multi‑path variant, designed for high‑throughput cluster environments, extends these capabilities to multi‑path tools.
“A robust data collection solution is essential for accurate equipment demonstration testing,” said Lorn Christal, ISMI project manager. “RAMCalc delivers precise, standardized performance metrics derived from consistent data collection mechanisms.”
Algorithms can be loaded directly onto fabrication tools, ensuring that the metrics generated are fully compliant with SEMI E10. Co‑project manager Jo Beekman noted, “RAMCalc is highly adaptable. While it currently generates SEMI E10 metrics, the same framework can be tailored to other productivity states or future, undefined metrics.”
With a ballot to revise the SEMI E10 Standard expected later this year—aimed at formalizing calculations for multi‑path cluster tools—RAMCalc has been engineered to anticipate and conform to the forthcoming updates.
The source code for RAMCalc is freely available through ISMI’s Collaborative Application Development Environment (CADe), a community‑source program that welcomes ISMI members and non‑members on a quid pro quo basis.
ISMI will host a comprehensive training session at the ISMI Symposium on November 1, 2010, covering:
- Intended process sets
- Single‑path cluster tools
- Multi‑path cluster tools
- Practical use of RAMCalc in marathon tests and high‑volume production
The basic RAMCalc application can be accessed directly from ISMI’s public website: https://ismi.sematech.org/industry/ramcalc/index.htm.
