ADLINK Unveils Rugged AI-Powered Video Analytics Platform for Railways

ADLINK has introduced the AVA‑RAGX, a rugged AI‑enabled video analytics platform engineered for next‑generation railway solutions, including passenger security, hazard detection, and railroad intrusion prevention.

Powered by the industrial version of Nvidia’s Jetson AGX Xavier, the AVA‑RAGX delivers compact, fanless performance in harsh operating environments. The platform’s modular design lets rail solution providers tailor configurations to meet specific operational demands, whether for onboard or wayside applications such as intrusion detection, station surveillance, onboard security, and hazard monitoring.

“AI is accelerating the digital transformation of the railway industry, improving operational efficiency, delivering smarter and safer customer services, and opening new business opportunities,” said Eric Kao, general manager of ADLINK’s networking, communication & public sector business unit. “The AVA‑RAGX is a significant addition to our rugged, AI‑enabled video analytics portfolio for rail. It showcases how ADLINK’s elite partnership with Nvidia accelerates product development with access to the latest GPU technologies and top‑tier technical support.”

ADLINK’s elite partnership with Nvidia grants it exclusive rights to develop chip‑down GPU solutions for ruggedized embedded markets. This collaboration also provides advanced processing capabilities and comprehensive technical support, enabling open‑standards‑based heterogeneous computing solutions for next‑generation AI and machine learning applications.

The AVA‑RAGX is engineered for real‑time video and graphics analysis in increasingly complex railway operations. With an 8‑core Nvidia Carmel CPU and a 512‑core NVIDIA Volta GPU, the platform exemplifies ADLINK’s expertise in next‑generation railway systems. Certified to EN 50155 specifications, it is rugged, fanless, and compact, making it ideal for deployment in harsh environments.

Its 288 × 190 × 72 mm footprint targets space‑constrained settings, perfect for edge‑type railway applications with limited enclosure space. The AVA‑RAGX offers a full suite of I/O ports: four M12 Gigabit ports, wireless connectivity (5G/LTE & Wi‑Fi), four digital inputs, and four digital outputs (24 VDC–110 VDC) with 1.5 kV isolation.

When paired with advanced camera systems, radar, LiDAR, GNSS, and AI software, the AVA‑RAGX delivers precise situational awareness of train surroundings and exact positioning. In rail operations, the long braking distance of trains poses a safety challenge; the AVA‑RAGX detects emerging hazards well ahead, extending warning time when connected to appropriate sensors. The hazard detection system enhances operational efficiency and safety, preventing accidents, especially under night or adverse weather conditions that reduce visibility.

Installed on inspection trains, the trackside equipment fault detection system processes real‑time images from wayside equipment—such as pantographs and track components—leveraging Nvidia’s GPU‑accelerated computing to identify potential faults at speeds up to 75 mph (120 km/h).

Integrating AI‑at‑the‑edge into legacy CCTV networks improves passenger experience. Rather than relying on playback footage, the AVA‑RAGX conducts real‑time monitoring for applications like unattended luggage detection, seat occupancy, and passenger counting. In station surveillance, the platform analyzes live video streams from platforms to detect suspicious or aggressive behavior, crowd dynamics, and even face‑mask compliance.
