The STM8‑SO8‑DISCO is STMicroelectronics’ compact, 8‑bit microcontroller discovery kit that gives developers instant access to all three STM8 variants sold in the SO8 package. It delivers a three‑in‑one value proposition, a clean and uncluttered layout, and a set of features that let you jump‑start the next phase of your project.

Only a single push‑button and an indicator LED provide basic user interaction, while the on‑board ST‑LINK/V2 and USB port give seamless in‑circuit debugging and programming from any PC. Each MCU is mounted on a dedicated break‑out that can be removed from the main board and plugged in as a DIL‑8 module, making it easy to prototype with the specific core you need.

Supported MCUs

• STM8S001J3M3 – Affordable performance, 16‑bit timers with three comparator outputs, three capture‑compare channels, a 10‑bit ADC, and an 8‑bit timer.
• STM8L001J3M3 – Ultra‑low‑power core drawing only 0.3 µA in Halt mode; includes 8‑ and 16‑bit timers and two comparators.
• STM8L050J3M3 – Ultra‑low‑power variant with a 12‑bit ADC and 4‑channel DMA controller.

All MCUs are based on the STM8 core running at 16 MHz with 8 kB on‑chip Flash. The packages offer watchdog and clock control, and a full set of communication interfaces: UART, SPI, and Fast I²C. With up to six user I/Os, they are well‑suited for industrial sensors, home‑automation hubs, smart lighting, access cards, battery chargers, and smart printer cartridges.
