PIC18-Q43 Microcontrollers: Zero‑Latency Configurable Peripherals for Real‑Time ControlMicrochip’s PIC18‑Q43 family delivers a new level of responsiveness for embedded systems. By harnessing core‑independent peripherals (CIPs), designers can offload routine tasks from the CPU, achieving near‑zero latency data sharing and logic processing without extra code.

Key features include a 12‑bit ADC that can compute results and serve up to 43 analog channels, an 8‑bit buffered DAC, six dedicated DMA channels, and three 16‑bit dual‑PWM modules. Eight programmable logic cells (CLCs) provide hardware‑based logic functions that glue on‑chip peripherals together, while a zero‑cross detect module can monitor AC line voltage and signal zero‑cross events.

The PIC18‑Q43 also ships with core‑independent communication interfaces—UART, SPI, and I²C—so data can move between peripherals and the CPU without CPU intervention. Multiple DMA channels and interrupt handling further accelerate real‑time control, allowing the main processor to focus on complex tasks or enter low‑power sleep modes.

Microchip’s development tool suite simplifies application creation: a graphical GUI lets engineers quickly generate code and tailor CIPs to their design. The family comprises nine device variants, each offering up to 128 kB of flash, 1 kB of EEPROM, and up to 8 kB of SRAM in 28, 40, 44, or 48‑pin packages. All units are available for both volume production and sampling, with pricing starting at $0.64 per device.
