Xilinx Launches New Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC Generations with Full Sub‑6 GHz Support for 5G and Beyond
Xilinx has broadened its Zynq UltraScale+ Radio Frequency System‑on‑Chip (RFSoC) family, delivering enhanced RF performance and scalability to meet the full sub‑6 GHz spectrum demand of next‑generation 5G networks.
Building on the proven multi‑market success of the base portfolio, the new Gen 2 and Gen 3 devices support direct RF sampling with 14‑bit ADCs at 5 GS/s and 14‑bit DACs at 10 GS/s, each offering up to 6 GHz analog bandwidth.
Key highlights of the expanded lineup:
- Gen 2: Production begins June 2019, designed for rapid deployment in Asia and fully compliant with 5G New Radio specifications.
- Gen 3: Available 2H 2019, adds complete sub‑6 GHz direct‑RF coverage, an extended millimeter‑wave interface, and cuts RF data‑converter power by up to 20 % versus the base portfolio.
By integrating high‑performance RF converters on a single die, the devices enable 5G base stations, cable access, advanced phased‑array radars, test & measurement, and satellite communications to achieve up to 50 % reduction in power consumption and board real estate.
Pin‑compatible across all generations, customers can start with Gen 1 components and seamlessly upgrade to Gen 2 or Gen 3 for superior performance without redesigning their systems.
