Hyperstone Unveils FlashXE Technology, Boosting 3D NAND Reliability

Hyperstone has introduced FlashXE eXtended Endurance alongside its latest X1 low‑power SSD controller. FlashXE is a comprehensive feature set designed to ensure maximum reliability of NAND flash‑based storage, combining advanced calibration, error‑correction recovery, proactive error avoidance, and refresh mechanisms.

As NAND flash densities rise and 3D NAND becomes the industry norm, the cost per gigabyte falls while the technical demands on flash management grow exponentially. Modern flash requires sophisticated algorithms to manage wear, mitigate data corruption, and maintain data integrity over the product’s lifetime.

FlashXE tackles these challenges from the outset. A rigorous qualification process characterizes every supported flash type across its life cycle and across temperature ranges. The resulting data is embedded into the controller’s firmware, providing a solid foundation for long‑term reliability.

During operation, the controller continuously adjusts read‑out voltage levels to adapt to aging flash cells. It also implements dynamic data refresh, near‑miss ECC, and read‑disturb mitigation to preempt errors before they surface.

When errors do occur, FlashXE deploys a two‑tier error‑correction system. One tier uses a traditional BCH code, while the second leverages a new generalized concatenated code that supports soft decoding for higher resilience.

FlashXE is fully integrated into Hyperstone’s X1 controller, a low‑power SSD solution engineered for rugged, industrial‑grade NAND flash applications.
