STM32H7 MCUs: 280 MHz Cortex‑M7, Advanced Connectivity, & Robust Security

STM32H7 MCUs: 280 MHz Cortex‑M7, Advanced Connectivity, & Robust SecurityThree STM32H7 microcontrollers from STMicroelectronics deliver a 280‑MHz Arm Cortex‑M7 core paired with a double‑precision floating‑point unit. Designed for the next generation of smart devices, these MCUs combine high‑speed processing with energy‑efficient operation. The STM32H7A3 and STM32H7B3 families provide 1 to 2 MB of flash and 1.4 MB of SRAM, while the STM32H7B0 Value line offers 128 KB of flash alongside the same 1.4 MB of SRAM.

For connectivity‑heavy workloads, the MCUs’ impressive CPU performance—1414 CoreMark and 599 DMIPS—combined with dense flash memory, enable robust handling of evolving RF communication protocols. Their power‑efficient architecture also supports machine‑learning workloads and neural‑network inference. Integrated graphics capabilities include a TFT‑LCD controller interface, a hardware JPEG accelerator, and Chrom‑GRC, which optimizes RAM usage for image processing tasks.

Security is built into every device. Features such as secure boot, a Root‑of‑Trust foundation, and hardware cryptographic and hash accelerators provide comprehensive protection. On‑the‑fly decryption extends these safeguards to code stored in external serial memories, decrypting content in real time without compromising performance.

Dual power domains grant flexible power management, while voltage scaling maximizes efficiency across run and stop modes. Current consumption drops to 32 µA in stop mode with an active SMPS and full RAM retention; standby current is a mere 4 µA.

The STM32H7A3 and STM32H7B3 series are available in BGA and LQFP packages ranging from 4 to 225 pins. The STM32H7B0 line offers BGA and LQFP packages with 64 to 176 pins. Prices begin at $3.78 for the STM32H7A3RIT6 when ordered in 10,000‑unit lots.
