Kontron Launches COM Express Type 6 Modules Powered by 8th‑Gen Intel Core & Celeron CPUs

Kontron has expanded its COM Express Compact Type 6 portfolio with four 8th‑generation Intel QuadCore processors, each rated at 15 W. These new modules are the first in Kontron’s lineup to feature Intel Core i7‑8665UE, Core i5‑8365UE, Core i3‑8145UE, and Celeron 4305UE CPUs.

The modules support up to 24 GB of DDR4 SDRAM and can be configured with an onboard NVMe SSD for fast, reliable storage. For harsh industrial environments, Kontron offers ruggedized variants that operate from –40 °C to +85 °C, and an option with soldered memory ("memory down") for maximum durability. A screened E2 variant is also on the horizon.

Designed to replace legacy solutions, the COMe‑cWL6 (E2S) maintains pin‑to‑pin compatibility with existing boards while delivering superior performance. Typical use cases include industrial edge computing, machine and robot control, digital signage, gaming, medical imaging, surveillance, and telecom infrastructure.

All modules integrate Kontron APPROTECT, a Wibu‑Systems CodeMeter‑based licensing solution. APPROTECT unlocks new business models such as pay‑per‑use and time‑limited trials, giving customers flexibility and secure software protection.
