Compact OB1203 Biosensor Module Unites Heart Rate, Pulse Oximetry, and More for Wearables

Compact OB1203 Biosensor Module Unites Heart Rate, Pulse Oximetry, and More for WearablesIntegrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT) has unveiled the OB1203, a miniature, optically‑enhanced biosensor module engineered for mobile and wearable platforms. The compact unit measures just 4.2 × 2 × 1.2 mm and bundles two LEDs, driver circuitry, multiple sensors, and a signal‑conditioning ASIC that streams all data over an I2C bus.

The OB1203 module delivers non‑invasive heart‑rate and SpO₂ monitoring while also providing an ambient‑light sensor (ALS), RGB color detection, proximity sensing, and a dedicated pulse‑oximeter module—an all‑in‑one solution for modern wearables.

Designed with user comfort in mind, the OB1203 incorporates an anti‑allergenic glass cover suitable for direct skin contact. When mounted under IR‑inked glass, the sensor can be virtually hidden, giving designers the flexibility to create sleek, unobtrusive devices.

Equipped with clinically validated heart‑rate and SpO₂ algorithms, the module ships with a customizable Android companion app and requires only power plus three I/O lines for operation.

Pre‑calibrated units are bundled with a comprehensive design toolkit, eliminating the need for specialized expertise. Evaluation kits—available with Bluetooth or USB connectivity—enable rapid prototyping and integration.

Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT) operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Renesas Electronics Corp., leveraging Renesas’ extensive semiconductor heritage.
