Privafy and Micron Introduce Embedded SECaaS for IoT Data in Motion
A newly unveiled embedded software module offers seamless protection for data in motion to and from IoT devices, delivering a turnkey security-as-a-service (SECaaS) solution for OEMs and service providers across the connected product spectrum—from smart locks to autonomous vehicles.
The solution is the result of a partnership between Privafy, a cloud‑based security startup, and Micron, leveraging its Authenta flash‑based root of trust. At its core lies Privafy MicroEdge, an embedded software module that enables IoT devices equipped with Micron Authenta flash to tap into Privafy’s data‑in‑motion security capabilities. Together, MicroEdge and Authenta protect and govern traffic to and from the device.
Privafy’s cloud‑native SECaaS uses Micron’s Authenta key‑management service (KMS) to provide clone‑proof endpoint authentication. This onboarding mechanism unlocks a full suite of services, including end‑to‑end secure connectivity, device lifecycle management and clustering, firewall, malware detection, and distributed denial‑of‑service protection. Manufacturers can centrally manage credentials—spanning manufacturing, sales, and service provisioning—while ensuring secure connectivity from devices to workloads in both public and private clouds.
“The collaboration with Micron delivers a complete turnkey solution,” says Sami Nassar, EVP and Chief Strategy Officer at Privafy. “Privafy’s cloud‑native service automatically recognizes Micron Authenta Flash and activates Authenta‑MicroEdge services. There’s no complex software to manage or updates to install; MicroEdge runs quietly in the background, adding no latency and securing all data in motion between IoT devices and endpoints.”
Amit Gattani, Senior Director of Segment Marketing for Micron’s embedded business unit, notes, “IoT service revenue is projected to exceed $450 billion annually by 2025 as billions of new devices go online, while cybercriminals continuously develop new attack vectors. Micron Authenta flash and KMS provide the secure foundation for cloud onboarding, and Privafy’s MicroEdge delivers a comprehensive SECaaS offering. The integration demonstrates how device trust can be anchored in Authenta technology.”
Privafy, founded in 2019 by former NXP Semiconductors and Verizon executives, highlights the challenges IoT manufacturers face in scaling data‑in‑motion security, especially for micro‑sized devices. Traditional encryption methods—such as MQTT and SSL/TLS—have known vulnerabilities, and conventional firewalls often fail to integrate with IoT hubs or data centers, creating gaps that allow attackers to infiltrate networks, exfiltrate data, or hijack devices.

MicroEdge is designed to integrate seamlessly into any IoT device or semiconductor chip, offering a lightweight, customizable solution that operates at the chip level. This provides a secure hardware root of trust aligned with zero‑trust network principles.
Privafy founder and chairman Rick Clemmer, former CEO of NXP, will deliver a keynote on cybersecurity at the upcoming Micron and Tata Communications IoT security conference.
