Samsung Artik: Secure, Interoperable IoT Platform for Rapid Development
Samsung unveiled the Samsung Artik Smart IoT platform at IoT World 2017, offering a unified solution that empowers developers to enter the IoT market with confidence. The platform’s end‑to‑end security and seamless device interoperability set it apart from competing offerings.
Designed to cover every stage of the IoT lifecycle—from hardware design and software development to data management and market deployment—the Artik platform delivers a complete, secure ecosystem that reduces time‑to‑market for new products.
Hardware Foundations
The Artik modules form the backbone of the platform. These Wi‑Fi‑enabled IoT modules come pre‑loaded with hardware security features, allowing developers to prototype quickly and connect devices directly to the Artik Cloud.

Key modules include the compact Artik 053, a size slightly larger than a quarter and shaped like a stick of gum. It houses a 32‑bit ARM Cortex‑R4 processor running at 320 MHz, 29 dedicated GPIO pins, and an on‑board security subsystem. The platform also offers the smaller Artik 020 and Artik 030 modules, as well as the Series 5, 7, and 10 families for more demanding applications.
Connected Cloud
The Artik Cloud is an open data‑exchange platform that links Artik devices with the broader IoT ecosystem. It enables interoperability with popular services such as Amazon Echo, Philips Hue, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa Smart Home Skill.
Recent updates to the Artik Cloud include accelerated device onboarding, edge node management, secure over‑the‑air (OTA) updates, integration with Amazon AWS Kinesis Stream, and new connectors for Google Assistant on Google Home and Amazon Alexa Smart Home Skill.
A Platform for the Future
Samsung’s goal is to shape the expanding IoT landscape by providing developers with a secure, all‑in‑one platform that accelerates rapid development, prototyping, and production. This strategy not only strengthens Samsung’s position in the market but also fosters a vibrant, interoperable network of connected devices.
“Security and interoperability are essential for next‑generation IoT products that can seamlessly connect to a wide array of devices and services,” said James Stansberry, Senior Vice President and US Platform Lead at Samsung Electronics.
