Mar-Bal Launches Fire‑Resistant Composite Wastebasket to Enhance Workplace Safety

Mar-Bal Launches Fire‑Resistant Composite Wastebasket to Enhance Workplace Safety

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), every 24 seconds, a fire department responds to a fire in the U.S. In an effort to combat this problem, Mar-Bal Inc. (Chagrin Falls, Ohio, U.S.), a composites manufacturer and ISO 9001:2015-registered company, has developed the Waste-Safe fire-resistant wastebasket. Made at the company’s state-of-the-art 110,700-square-foot facility in Painesville, Ohio, the fire-resistant wastebaskets are made from thermoset composites with fiberglass reinforcement and are available in a range of colors and sizes.

The UL-classified and California State Fire Marshal (CSFM)-listed line is able to contain a fire without burning, melting or collapsing, says Mar-Bal. When implemented, the wastebaskets are said to improve an organization’s overall fire safety plans and lead to an overall improved risk management plan. Designed for safety and efficiency, Waste-Safe wastebaskets will not burn or contribute to a fire, are low smoke and non-toxic and feature seamless construction.

Additionally, typical round metal trash receptacles can dent easily and will rust, often leaving a metal stain on the floor. Mar-Bal says its wastebaskets can also help reduce these preventative maintenance costs, are easy to clean and are corrosion- and rust-proof.

Mar-Bal says it designed and manufactured Waste-Safe for versatile commercial and industrial applicability, like hospitals, offices, K-12 classrooms, laboratories, apartments, college campuses, etc. Waste-Safe is available in four sizes (8, 14, 27 and 40-quart) and ten different colors, including granite-looking options. Customization is available with decorative permanent silk screen imprinting.

“Mar-Bal’s expansion of the Waste-Safe fire resistant wastebasket line complements our proprietary products family and reflects our commitment to diversified composite growth,” says Mar-Bal Director, proprietary products, Anthony Lignetta. “Ultimately, it’s a low-cost solution compared to metal, and it promotes organization and, most importantly fire safety as we have a V-0 listed fire resistance rating.”

He adds, “Our integrated distribution network is strong, and many offer immediate online availability. In addition, we are currently looking for additional distribution in the western U.S.”

Mar-Bal provides customers with comprehensive thermoset composite solutions, including part design, specialized material formulations, decorating, assembly and customized automation.
