DIN 1725-1 Grade 3.1645 T3 – Premium AlCuMgPb Free‑Cutting Alloy
The material AlCuMgPb is a free-cutting alloy (boring and turning quality). It is the most used aluminum free-cutting alloy. The addition of Pb causes splinter breaking and permits thereby higher cutting velocities and cutting depths with troublefree splinter removal. This material reached in the cold-hardened condition relatively high strength grades (F 34 and/or F 37), hot ageing is not usual, but its corrosion resistance is insufficient. For this reason a surface treatment is necessary for the corrosion protection. The alloy is weldable only under certain conditions. In addition the strength loss within the range of the welding seam, connected with welding, impairs the use of AlCuMgPb in welded structures. Only as bars and pipes standardised (DIN 1747 part of 1 and part of 2 and/or DIN 1746 part of 1 and part of 2). Heat treatment for hardening: solution annealing: 480 to 490 °C quenching in water to 65 °C cold ageing: 5 to 8 d at ambient temperatures Application: For bearing constructions (loaded statically according to DIN 4113), in the apparatus and tank construction for heat exchangers, for compressed gas bottles, technical flow pressed parts, in the automobile engineering for tank and silo trucks, for dump truck hollows, buses, body parts for safety-related parts, wheels, superstructures in mechanical engineering for devices, tools (baseplates, head and stamp retaining plates as well as guide plates), machine tables, hydraulic/pneumatics, shaft couplings (forgings), roller pipes, brake disks and brake drums (with squirted wear course), joining elements (screws according to DIN 267 T 18, rivets) in food industry (including commercial devices), in the building of rail-mounted vehicles for railroad car doors, stroke sun roofs, wheel-center disks, axle box case, car boxes, in shipbuilding (including mechanisms) for the trunk for superstructures, sail masts, equipment for radar, in the mining industry, in the building industry for roller shutter, roll gates, for camping furniture, as metal goods (building fittings, table-ware, reflectors etc.) In mechanical engineering for milling heads for the wood processing, for wheels (toothed belts) as well as for shaft couplings (also flexible).
