Callaway Introduces Hybrid Cover Golf Balls with Dow’s Paraloid Acrylic Modifier for Unmatched Performance
Callaway Golf’s latest ERC Soft and Supersoft balls incorporate a hybrid cover that blends Dow’s Surlyn ionomers with a proprietary Paraloid acrylic impact modifier.
Historically, the Supersoft line relied on partially neutralized ionomer covers. 2021 marks the first time these balls feature the advanced multi‑material technology, giving players a new level of performance.
The core of both models is a cross‑linked polybutadiene rubber compound produced with Callaway’s medical‑device‑grade injection‑molding process. This combination delivers long distance, exceptional spin, a softer feel, and precise short‑game control.
Dow’s Paraloid additives enable the creation of high‑performance, durable compounds that seamlessly blend with other resins via melt‑processing. These additives have proven essential across sports equipment, automotive, and electronics, where resilience under extreme conditions is paramount.
“The Callaway and Dow teams combine unmatched R&D expertise and a deep understanding of the game to push golf‑ball technology forward,” says Ian Drake, Dow Plastics Additives’ global technical director.
Callaway’s Jason Finley adds, “The Paraloid‑infused hybrid cover delivers high launch, low spin, and excellent feel, giving players greater distance, control, and durability—all while maintaining exceptional ball speed and spin performance.”
