Ineos Styrolution & Polystyvert Join Forces to Advance Circular Economy for Polystyrene
Ineos Styrolution, the world’s leading styrenics manufacturer, and Polystyvert, a Canadian IP‑based clean‑technology startup, have announced a strategic partnership to transform post‑consumer polystyrene (PS) waste into a premium, recyclable PS resin.
Polystyvert’s patented dissolution technology dissolves solid PS waste in a solvent, enabling mechanical and chemical removal of contaminants and additives. The polymer is then isolated from the solvent, yielding a purified resin that can replace virgin material in new products.
The company’s advanced purification process can handle diverse feedstocks—from industrial scrap to municipal streams—eliminating stubborn contaminants such as pigments and brominated flame‑retardants. The result is recycled PS pellets that meet stringent specifications for food‑grade and other high‑performance applications.
Ineos Styrolution has set ambitious sustainability targets to boost post‑consumer PS recovery. “Polystyvert’s purification capability is unparalleled,” says Ricardo Cuetos, Vice‑President Americas. “The exceptional quality of the recycled resin is critical to achieving a true circular economy in key markets, such as food‑service packaging.”
Polystyvert CEO Solenne Brouard adds, “Our dissolution process is energy‑efficient and cost‑effective, producing competitive recycled PS that unlocks the full potential of a closed‑loop economy. Partnering with Ineos Styrolution accelerates our shared goal of maximizing PS recycling.”
