SABIC & NUDEC Launch Certified Renewable Lexan PC, Cutting Carbon by 61%

A partnership between SABIC and Spain’s NUDEC, S.A., a leading producer of clear plastic sheets for construction, protective gear, and machinery, has introduced certified renewable Lexan PC into a range of end‑use products.

As part of SABIC’s Trucircle portfolio, the renewable Lexan PC is backed by a peer‑reviewed cradle‑to‑gate Life‑Cycle Assessment that demonstrates potential carbon‑footprint reductions of up to 61% and fossil‑fuel depletion cuts of up to 35%.

The Cartagena, Spain facility, which manufactures PC and renewable‑blend products, earned ISCC Plus accreditation last year. This certification confirms that NUDEC’s polycarbonate sheets are certified renewable. The plant follows a mass‑balance methodology, tracing every material from feedstock to finished sheet to ensure traceability and compliance with transparent standards. NUDEC’s own ISCC certification further guarantees a consistent, verifiable sustainable supply chain for shared customers.

By 2024, the Cartagena plant will become the first facility worldwide to operate entirely on renewable electricity, following a major project announced last year—underscoring SABIC’s commitment to a carbon‑neutral future.

“NUDEC is the first in the plastic‑sheet industry to offer an alternative that aligns with the growing demand for sustainability in polycarbonate sheet production,” said CEO Joan Antoni Enrich. “By integrating SABIC’s certified renewable Lexan PC, we can provide customers with a drop‑in solution that meets the same high performance standards while advancing our sustainability strategy.”

Abdullah S. Al‑Otaibi, SABIC’s ETP & Market Solutions General Manager, added, “We’re thrilled to partner with NUDEC to introduce certified renewable polycarbonate into the building and construction sector. Our renewable materials deliver a lower carbon footprint without compromising on quality, allowing us to support circular economy principles and responsible resource use across the value chain.”
