Braskem Joins Cyclyx Consortium as Founding Member, Advancing Circular Plastic Solutions
Braskem has joined Cyclyx International, a Portsmouth‑based feedstock‑management consortium that aims to raise plastic recyclability from 10% to 90%. Braskem’s sustainability and circular economy director, Geoffrey Inch, will serve on Cyclyx’s Executive Advisory Board. The consortium was launched by Agilyx Corp. (75% ownership) and ExxonMobil (25% equity).
As a member, Braskem gains access to Cyclyx’s integrated platform, which combines chemical characterization of plastics, predictive modeling of feed‑stock routes to product pathways, custom feedstock recipes, and tailored supply‑chain solutions. These tools are designed to produce waste‑plastic feedstock that can be processed by all current and emerging mechanical and advanced recycling technologies.
"We’re delighted to welcome Braskem as a founding member and to add Geoffrey Inch to our advisory board. Braskem’s deep expertise in the biopolymer sector and its commitment to a carbon‑neutral circular economy make them an invaluable partner, reinforcing our pledge to lift post‑use plastic recycling rates from 10% to 90%," said Cyclyx CEO Joe Vaillancourt.
"As North America’s leading polypropylene producer, Braskem is proud to join Cyclyx. Our long‑standing use of sustainable feedstock and dedication to circularity align with Cyclyx’s mission to overcome key hurdles for scaling advanced recycling. This partnership is a crucial step toward delivering certified circular polypropylene for our customers," added Geoffrey Inch.
Braskem recently reaffirmed its pledge to a Carbon‑Neutral Circular Economy, targeting sales of 300,000 tons of its “I’m green” recycled products by 2025 and 1 million tons by 2030. In 2020, Braskem became a founding member and financial partner of the Polypropylene Recycling Coalition—an initiative of The Recycling Partnership—to expand U.S. curbside recycling for polypropylene and secure its recovery and reuse. Braskem also co‑founded the Alliance to End Plastic Waste.
