New GLS Antimicrobial TPEs: Safeguarding High‑Touch Plastic Surfaces

Avient Corp. expands its GLS Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) line with three new antimicrobial‑infused formulations, available in Versaflex and OnFlex grades. Certified against JIS Z2801 and ASTM G21‑15, each blend delivers ≥ 99.9 % inhibition of bacterial growth while resisting fungal and mold proliferation.

High‑touch surfaces—such as consumer electronics, personal‑care grips, automotive cup‑holder mats, and HVAC seals—are prime targets for microbial colonization, which can cause off‑odors and compromise surface integrity and mechanical performance. Our antimicrobial TPEs preserve aesthetic and functional qualities, extending product life and reducing replacement cycles.

All GLS antimicrobial TPEs incorporate an EPA‑registered additive supplied by Lonza LLC, the industry leader behind long‑standing anti‑dandruff formulations. The same chemistry that protects personal‑care products now safeguards finished plastic parts.

Beyond longevity, the materials maintain surface finish, resist odor buildup, and deliver the hallmark toughness and flexibility of the GLS brand.

These formulations are currently available in the United States and Asia, with additional antimicrobial grades under development.
