ASTM International & Mexico’s DGN Sign MoU to Strengthen Standards Collaboration

On October 29, ASTM International and Mexico’s national standards body, the Dirección General de Normas (DGN) – part of the Ministry of Economy – formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement was signed by ASTM President Kathie Morgan and DGN’s General Director of Standards, Alfonso Guati Rojo Sánchez.

This partnership marks a pivotal moment for the intertwined plastics sectors of the United States and Mexico, enabling coordinated development of technical standards that drive safety, trade, and innovation across the region.

Key Objectives of the MoU

• Build awareness of ASTM as a trusted technical resource among government agencies and industry stakeholders.
• Invite Mexican participants to co‑author ASTM standards, ensuring they meet local and global needs.
• Foster joint collaboration on shared technical challenges.
• Promote standards education for students and educators.

“This is yet another step in ASTM International’s work in Mexico and Latin America,” said Kathie Morgan. “By partnering with DGN and Mexico’s technical developers, we will better support innovation, competitiveness, sustainability, and climate resilience through standards that reflect technical quality and market relevance.”

ASTM already counts nearly 200 Mexican members on its technical committees, 45 companies in proficiency testing programs, and more than 350 student members across 15 university campuses.
