Woodworking & Epoxy Resin: Protecting, Preserving, and Coating Wood Surfaces
1. Protecting Natural Woods for Art Pieces and Table Tops
Wood is naturally porous, allowing epoxy to bond effectively. Magic Resin epoxy is frequently used to coat dried natural wood for art panels or tabletops.
To prevent trapped air bubbles, ensure the wood is at room temperature. If the wood was harvested in a cold environment, let it acclimate indoors before applying resin.

2. Preserving Art Pieces on Wood
When securing a new artwork on a wooden substrate, epoxy resin provides durable protection while preserving image clarity. Many artists select epoxy for mixed‑media, paintings, and installations because it creates a clear, stable finish.
Keep in mind that epoxy does not adhere to Teflon, polyethylene, polypropylene, or nylon.
3. Coating Stained Woods
Epoxy can coat stained wood, but dyes vary widely in composition, so testing is essential. Apply the same dye to a sample board, coat with epoxy, and observe the cure. If the epoxy cures cleanly and the surface remains clear, you can proceed with your project.
We recommend water‑based stains for best compatibility. Once the epoxy has cured, the surface cannot be re‑stained.
