SMRP Releases Standardized KPI Set for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals

On May 4, the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) announced the launch of a comprehensive, globally harmonized set of maintenance and reliability key performance indicators (KPIs). Each metric includes a clear definition, objective, calculation formula, component terms, qualification guidelines, sample calculation, harmonization indicator, and supporting references.

The metrics were developed by SMRP’s Best Practices Committee—a volunteer panel of seasoned maintenance and reliability experts worldwide. They underwent a rigorous multi‑stage process: initial drafting, project‑manager review, subcommittee refinement, public web review, harmonization with the European Federation of National Maintenance Societies, pilot validation, full committee overhaul, and final formatting before publication.

SMRP members can purchase individual metrics for $5 each, while non‑members are charged $10. Ten metrics are currently available, with 25 more slated for release in the coming weeks and a projected total of 70 by year‑end. A future compendium will bundle all metrics, supplemental guidelines, and an extensive glossary. Many KPIs are already aligned with the EN 15341 European standard for maintenance KPIs.
