SMRPCO Extends CMRP Exam Duration to 2½ Hours to Support Global Candidates
The Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals Certifying Organization (SMRPCO) announced on November 18 that, following the October board meeting, the CMRP exam duration will increase from two hours to two and a half hours. The new timing will take effect on December 1.
"As the CMRP certification program continues to grow internationally, we recognized that we need to be sensitive to those with English as a second language and we don’t want to disadvantage candidates simply due to the extra time it takes to read through the questions," said SMRPCO chair Joe Grande. "Currently the exam is only available in English and Spanish. We are working on and are close to launching our Brazilian Portuguese version of the exam."
The decision was thoroughly researched and reviewed by psychometrician Dr. Early, who advises SMRPCO on testing best practices. He confirmed that the change, applied uniformly to all candidates, keeps the program within the bounds of our ANSI accreditation.
Director of Certification Greg Yeager added, "We are excited about the growth of the certification program and are always looking for feedback and ways to continuously improve our processes."
The CMRP exam is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under ISO 17024 standards for a Personnel Certification Program. It is taken by over 1,000 candidates each year and there are currently nearly 3,000 CMRPs practicing in more than 40 countries worldwide.
