Entergy Louisiana Invests $100M to Upgrade Transmission Grid, Boosting Reliability Across 900 Sq. Miles

Entergy Louisiana is investing $100 million in a comprehensive upgrade of its electric transmission grid, with construction slated to begin in January 2018. The project, covering roughly 900 square miles, is designed to boost reliability, expand capacity, and secure affordable power for residents of Jefferson Davis Parish and beyond.

“This initiative underscores Entergy Louisiana’s steadfast commitment to delivering dependable, affordable electricity while fostering economic growth in the state,” said Chip Arnould, Senior Regional Manager of Customer Service. “Spanning one of the largest transmission areas in our portfolio, the upgrade is a key driver for regional development.”

The upgrade will involve building new high‑voltage lines and reconstructing existing ones. All new and rebuilt sections will feature steel towers capable of withstanding winds up to 140 mph, and reinforced conductors designed for higher efficiency and reliability. Projected completion is February 2020, contingent on weather and permitting.

Entergy has established a robust communication plan to keep communities, businesses, institutions, and government agencies informed throughout the project. Collaboration with regulators, local authorities, and key stakeholders will shape detailed execution and traffic‑control strategies.

As a subsidiary of Entergy Corp., Entergy Louisiana serves more than 1 million electric customers and nearly 93 000 natural‑gas customers across southern, central, and northeastern Louisiana, including the greater Baton Rouge area.
