Renesas and Miromico Launch Advanced LoRa Module Powered by Synergy Platform
Renesas Electronics and Miromico have unveiled the compact, low‑power FMLR‑61‑x‑RSS3 module, a new LoRa device that leverages cutting‑edge wireless radio‑frequency technology. Designed for the rapidly expanding LoRaWAN networks across Europe, the module simplifies connectivity for a wide range of IoT applications.
The FMLR‑61‑x‑RSS3 is built on Renesas’s Synergy Platform, giving developers immediate access to the S3A6 microcontroller and a comprehensive, production‑grade software ecosystem. Engineers can use the S3A6 MCU to manage device logic while effortlessly streaming data to the cloud via LoRaWAN. The protocol’s 50 km reach, flexible architecture, and secure, battery‑efficient operation make it the de‑facto standard for connecting the “Things” of the IoT.
Key specifications include a 14.2 × 19.5 mm footprint, operating voltage from 1.8 V to 3.3 V, and power consumption ranging from 1.4 µA in deep sleep to 25.5 mA (typical) during transmission at 14 dBm. The module delivers a receiver sensitivity of –148 dBm in LoRa mode (SF12@10.4 kHz) and operates reliably between –40 °C and 85 °C. Its licensed LoRaWAN stack supports Firmware‑Over‑The‑Air updates, and the module meets all relevant certifications for mass deployment.
Ideal for both urban and rural sensing—such as metering, asset tracking, building automation, security, wearables, and predictive maintenance—the FMLR‑61‑x‑RSS3 delivers exceptional performance in a small form factor.
At the heart of the module is the S3A6 MCU, featuring a 48 MHz Arm Cortex‑M4 core, 256 KB code flash, 8 KB data flash, and 32 KB SRAM, providing ample memory for custom functions. The MCU’s peripheral set, including a 14‑bit SAR ADC, 12‑bit DAC, op‑amps, comparators, multiple timers, serial ports, USB, CAN, DMA, and robust safety and security hardware, makes it suitable for a broad spectrum of battery‑powered solutions. As part of Renesas’s extensive Synergy portfolio, the S3A6 can be scaled up or down to match product requirements and cost goals.
The Synergy Platform’s Software Package (SSP) supplies a rich library of production‑grade software, including the ThreadX RTOS, file system, USB stack, GUI tools, application frameworks, and libraries for encryption and digital signal processing. This powerful hardware‑software synergy accelerates development timelines and ensures high reliability.
