Cypress Launches Dual‑Mode Bluetooth 5.0 MCUs with Mesh Networking, Bridging IoT Devices to Smartphones
Cypress Semiconductor has unveiled two low‑power, dual‑mode Bluetooth 5.0/LE microcontrollers—CYW20819 and CYW20820—designed to empower the next generation of Internet‑of‑Things (IoT) devices. These MCUs support full Bluetooth mesh networking while simultaneously maintaining classic Bluetooth audio and BLE links, enabling seamless music playback, voice commands, and robust smartphone connectivity in battery‑powered wearables, health monitors, and voice remotes.
The CYW20819 excels at maintaining Serial Port Profile (SPP) connections alongside mesh networking, making it ideal for industrial sensors and enterprise applications. The CYW20820 extends this functionality with a built‑in 10 dBm power amplifier, delivering reliable coverage up to 400 m and whole‑home reach for smart‑home and enterprise deployments. Both chips run on an ARM Cortex‑M4 core that achieves 60 % lower active power for 200 ms beacons compared to competing solutions, translating to an impressive 123‑day battery life on a standard CR2032 coin‑cell.
These MCUs are fully compatible with Cypress’s ModusToolbox development environment, which supplies ready‑to‑use sample code, Bluetooth mesh libraries, and sensor‑kit applications. In addition, Cypress offers complementary BLE solutions—CYW20719, CYW20706, CYW20735—and Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth combo chips such as CYW43438 and CYW43570, ensuring comprehensive, standards‑compliant mesh support across both Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi ecosystems.
