RSL10 Mesh Development Kit Empowers Ultra‑Low‑Power BLE Networks

ON Semiconductor simplifies the deployment of ultra‑low‑power Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) mesh networks with the new RSL10 Mesh Platform. Designed for smart homes, building automation, industrial IoT, remote environmental monitoring, and asset tracking, the kit delivers a ready‑to‑use solution that balances power efficiency with robust connectivity.

The heart of the platform is the RSL10 system‑in‑package (SIP), which bundles a powerful BLE radio, high‑performance microcontroller, and advanced power‑management circuitry. Each mesh node comes pre‑equipped with a suite of sensing and indicator peripherals: an ambient light sensor (LV0104CS), a temperature sensor (N34TS108), magnetic sensors, LED indicators, and a triple‑output NCP5623B LED driver for full‑color LED control. A built‑in battery charger supports both Li‑ion and Li‑poly cells, enabling truly autonomous operation.

The kit includes two RSL10 mesh nodes and a Strata Gateway, which connects the network to ON Semiconductor’s Strata Developer Studio. Developers can assign distinct roles to each node—such as relay, proxy, or device—to explore specific mesh functionalities. The gateway and cloud‑based software provide seamless provisioning of additional nodes and support firmware‑over‑the‑air (FOTA) updates, ensuring that deployments remain secure and up‑to‑date.

For rapid prototyping, the RSL10 radio is supported by an Eclipse‑based integrated development environment (IDE), a mobile provisioning app, and a Mesh Networking software package that complies with Bluetooth SIG specifications. Sample projects, including a smart office demonstration, are available in the Strata Developer Studio’s virtual workspaces, allowing developers to access sensor data and configure network parameters with ease.
