Infineon Unveils XENSIV DPS368: Ultra‑Compact, High‑Precision Barometric Pressure Sensor

Infineon Technologies introduces the XENSIV DPS368, a miniature digital barometric pressure sensor that simultaneously measures pressure and temperature with an outstanding ±2 cm altitude precision. Designed for the most demanding mobile and wearable scenarios, it delivers accurate altitude, airflow and motion data while consuming only a few microamps of current.

The sensor is housed in a rugged 8‑pin LGA package measuring 2.0 × 2.5 × 1.1 mm³. Its IPx8‑rated enclosure can survive 50 m of water for one hour, safeguarding the sensing cells from dust, humidity and harsh handling. The compact footprint saves roughly 80 % of the space required by competing waterproof solutions, simplifying board layout and assembly.

At its core, the DPS368 uses a capacitive sensing principle that maintains high accuracy even with temperature drift. An on‑chip signal processor converts the raw pressure and temperature signals into 24‑bit digital results. The sensor’s built‑in FIFO stores up to 32 samples, enabling burst‑mode acquisition at up to 200 Hz while keeping the rest of the system in low‑power sleep. Calibration coefficients are embedded in the device and read out via I²C or SPI, allowing firmware to translate raw data into precise pressure (300–1200 hPa) and temperature (–40 °C to +85 °C) values.

Operating at a 1 Hz sampling rate, the DPS368 draws an average of only 1.7 µA; its standby current drops to 0.5 µA. Combined with a temperature accuracy of ±0.5 °C, the sensor is ideal for battery‑powered wearables, UAVs, medical inhalers and smart home appliances that demand reliable, low‑power barometric data.
