Infineon Introduces the KP276: Industry‑Leading Digital Turbo MAP Sensor for Superior Engine Efficiency
Infineon Unveils the KP276 Digital Turbo MAP Sensor at Sensor+Test
At the Sensor+Test trade fair, Infineon Technologies announced the XENSIV KP276 series – a high‑performance digital absolute pressure sensor designed for manifold air‑pressure (MAP) measurement in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged diesel and gasoline engines, as well as for exhaust‑gas recirculation (EGR) applications.
Why MAP Accuracy Matters
Accurate MAP readings are critical for calculating the optimal air‑fuel ratio, boosting combustion efficiency, and reducing harmful emissions. Additionally, MAP data can help diagnose leaks and EGR valve malfunctions, improving overall engine reliability.
Unparalleled Accuracy and Future Enhancements
The KP276 delivers a pressure range of 10 kPa to 400 kPa with a lifetime accuracy error of just 0.77 % full‑scale span (FSS). A next‑generation variant, targeting 0.5 % FSS, is already in development and will meet ISO26262 safety requirements, complete with all necessary analyses and documentation for safety‑critical use.
Integrated Temperature Sensing and Rapid Data Transfer
Each sensor incorporates signal processing for an external NTC temperature sensor, allowing both pressure and temperature outputs to be transmitted over a single digital interface. The 8‑wire SENT bus supports a short frame length of 846 µs and a typical NTC start‑up time of only 10 ms, enabling faster measurement and communication than previous Infineon models.
Robust Design for Harsh Engine Environments
Available in a rugged SMD‑8 package, the KP276 is qualified for temperatures ranging from –40 °C to 150 °C and is resistant to aggressive media such as iodine and exhaust‑gas condensate, making it ideal for demanding engine‑management applications.
