Infineon Unveils High‑Precision AMR Angle Sensors for Automotive & Industrial Use

At the Sensor+Test trade fair, Infineon Technologies expanded its sensor lineup with the new XENSIV TLE5109A16 family of AMR‑based angle sensors. Designed for the highest functional‑safety standards, these devices deliver fast, accurate, and cost‑efficient angle measurement in automotive and industrial applications—including brushless DC motor position sensing for pumps, wipers, brakes; valve, flap, pedal, and steering‑angle detection.

These sensors are engineered for 180° range measurement and can also handle 360° operation in motors with an even number of pole pairs. They are compatible with a wide magnetic‑field spectrum, from 10 mT up to over 500 mT.

Infineon’s AMR technology stands out for its exceptional accuracy, achieving angle errors as low as 0.1°. Even at low magnetic fields (10–20 mT), where errors typically rise, the XENSIV TLE5109A16 outperforms competing solutions with errors below 0.2%. This precision allows customers to employ smaller, less expensive magnets without compromising performance.

The family is available in single‑die and dual‑die (ASIL D‑ready) variants, and can be powered from either 3.3 V or 5 V. With a rapid start‑up time of just 40–70 µs, the sensors outpace comparable offerings and support high‑speed applications exceeding 30,000 RPM.

Complementing Infineon’s existing GMR‑based TLE5009A16 and versatile TLE5309D products, all XENSIV TLE5x09 sensors share the same pin‑configuration and interfaces within a TDSO‑16 package. This design consistency enables quick swaps between products or versions with minimal design effort.
