Infineon Introduces Monolithically Integrated Linear Hall Sensor Certified for ASIL D Automotive Applications

Infineon Technologies has announced the launch of the XENSIV TLE4999I3, a monolithically integrated linear Hall sensor that meets the stringent ISO 26262 safety standard for automotive use. Designed for ASIL D systems, the TLE4999I3 is ideal for applications such as electric steering, throttle control, and pedal sensing, where fault tolerance and functional safety are paramount.

ISO 26262 mandates that a system remain operational even when a single fault occurs. The TLE4999I3 achieves this through a dual‑Hall‑element architecture, with independent signal paths that enable internal plausibility checks. These on‑chip checks validate sensor data in real time and provide comprehensive status information to the host controller, ensuring uninterrupted operation at the system level.

Beyond safety, the sensor delivers exceptional performance: magnetic sensitivity with an error tolerance of less than 2 %, and an offset‑error drift capped at 100 µT—half the drift of comparable products—across the entire temperature range and product lifetime.

The device offers two selectable magnetic ranges (±12.5 mT and 25 mT), allowing the use of small, cost‑effective magnets. It features a PSI5 current‑mode interface, which simplifies wiring, improves electromagnetic compatibility, and supports cable lengths up to 12 m—ideal for long‑distance connections to control units.

Encased in the compact PG‑SSO‑3 package, the TLE4999I3 meets AECQ 100 Grade 0 qualification, enabling operation in ambient temperatures up to 150 °C under average conditions.
