Infineon Unveils First NFC Forum‑Certified Type 4B Tag
NFC tags are experiencing a renaissance as users increasingly tap smartphones on tags to access digital information and services. Yet reliable data exchange remains a key challenge for a positive user experience. Infineon Technologies, a global semiconductor leader, delivers seamless connectivity by providing handset manufacturers with reference tags that support all internationally standardized NFC protocols. The newest Infineon NFC reference tags, built on the SECORA Pay security solution, have received full approval under the NFC Forum Certification Program, confirming their compliance with both Type 4A and Type 4B tags.
Notably, the Type 4B tag is the first product worldwide certified by the NFC Forum to support the contactless Type B protocol. It will be unveiled at the NFC Forum Member Meeting in Stuttgart, Germany, from 25 to 28 June 2019. Infineon has been a principal member of the NFC Forum since 2005, driving industry standards and innovation.
Until now, NFC tags have largely been confined to low‑risk applications such as sharing URLs or business cards. However, they now offer a wide range of benefits beyond simple information sharing, including secure, payment‑grade transactions. With native support across a growing number of smartphone operating systems, users can activate services via NFC without opening an app, instantly linking their device to wearables, scooters, or other smart services. This intuitive connectivity makes everyday digital transactions easier for consumers while preserving robust security.
