Sundance VCS‑1: Compact, Low‑Power Embedded Processor for High‑Precision Robotics

Sundance Multiprocessor Technology proudly introduces the Sundance VCS‑1, a compact, high‑performance, low‑power embedded processor platform engineered for precision robotics that demand complex real‑time vision, control, and sensor integration. Built on the 90 × 96 mm PC/104 form factor, the VCS‑1 weighs just 300 g and consumes approximately 15 W, making it ideal for portable, power‑constrained applications while maintaining industry‑standard compatibility and expandability.

At the heart of the VCS‑1 lies a Xilinx Zynq MPSoC mounted as a System‑on‑Module. It features an ARM Cortex‑A53 64‑bit quad‑core CPU for general‑purpose processing, an ARM Mali‑400 GPU for graphics acceleration, an ARM Cortex‑R5 Real‑Time Processing Unit for deterministic event handling, and a reconfigurable FPGA fabric for hardware‑accelerated AI and image‑processing pipelines.

The module’s I/O capabilities are delivered through the Sundance External Interface Card (SEIC). Multiple USB 3.0 ports support high‑speed cameras such as the Intel RealSense T265, D435, Stereo‑Labs Zed depth cameras, and the FLIR AX‑8 thermal camera. It also offers native connectivity to Arduino and Raspberry Pi peripherals, HDMI output, SATA storage, Ethernet networking, an onboard ADC for sensor data acquisition, and a DAC for servo control. Programmable logic implements a wide array of I/O standards, reducing latency between cameras, sensors, and actuators.

Software support spans the full robotics stack: ROS Melodic (ROS‑2 ready), MQTT, OpenCV, Xilinx Edge‑AI, Python, Ubuntu, Xilinx SDSoC, TULIPP STHEM, and the Xilinx DPU for deep‑learning inference. The VCS‑1 comes sealed in a custom PC/104‑Blade enclosure that eliminates the need for fans, providing a rugged, fan‑less environment for resilient embedded robotics systems.
