TDK Unveils Compact, High‑Performance Disk Varistors for Power Supply Protection

TDK Corporation (TSE:6762) introduces the EPCOS Compact S14 AdvanceD‑MP series, a new line of metal‑oxide disk varistors that deliver the same high‑level performance as current S14 models while fitting into smaller footprints.

The B72214P2* variants now measure only 13 mm to 14 mm in diameter—approximately 3 mm smaller than their predecessors—yet maintain a maximum surge current rating of 6 kA at 8/20 µs in compliance with IEC 62368‑1.

Spanning an operating voltage range of 130 V ≤ VRMS ≤ 460 V, these compact varistors are engineered for multiple‑pulse protection against low‑level repetitive surges. Their optimized geometry yields superior derating over time, making them reliable first‑line defenses in power supplies.

All units carry UL, CSA, VDE, and IEC certifications, underscoring their safety and global compliance.

With their reduced size and robust electrical characteristics, the Compact S14 varistors enable designers to shrink device footprints without compromising protection. Ideal applications include switch‑mode power supplies, LED lighting drivers, home appliances, and smart meters.
