Driving Convergence and Interoperability in Industrial IoT and Industrie 4.0

After extensive analysis, the consortium selected OPC Unified Architecture’s Pub‑Sub capability over Time‑Sensitive Networks (TSN) as the premier interoperable, industrial machine‑to‑machine (M2M) communication protocol. Over the past years, Cisco has partnered with IEEE industrial ecosystem partners to enhance Ethernet for the real‑time communication demands of Automation and Control. TSN supplies the open, standard building blocks needed to unify industrial automation and to enable the convergence of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) that is fundamental to realizing IIoT.

Collectively, we are committed to embedding OPC UA over TSN in future generations of our products, and pilots of these solutions are already underway. This initiative is not exclusive; other companies are invited to join and contribute to a shared vision of unified communication between industrial controllers and the cloud.
