Danimer Scientific Enhances Production Capacity of Nodax PHA Bioplastic

Danimer Scientific has successfully completed a series of debottlenecking initiatives at its Winchester, Kentucky, manufacturing facility. These upgrades position the company to fully utilize the plant’s current annual run‑rate capacity of 20 million pounds of Nodax‑based resins, meeting its goal of 100 % capacity utilization by the end of 2021.

Danimer Scientific Enhances Production Capacity of Nodax PHA Bioplastic

Nodax PHA is produced through a natural fermentation process that uses plant oil—primarily canola—grown on non‑food crops. The resulting bioplastic is certified to fully biodegrade in a range of settings, from industrial composting facilities and home compost bins to soil and marine environments. Its versatility allows it to replace conventional plastic in applications such as drinking straws, flexible packaging, disposable cups, and cutlery.

Michael Smith, Danimer Scientific’s Chief Operating Officer, said, “With the Winchester plant now operating at full capacity, we can focus on expanding the facility over the next year. The second phase of construction is underway, and we expect the expansion to be operational in Q2 2022. We remain committed to delivering sustainable solutions to the global plastic waste challenge.”
