Stratasys Origin One: Precision 3D Printing for Production-Grade Parts

In December 2020, Stratasys completed its acquisition of UK‑based 3D‑printing pioneer Origin, setting the stage for a new generation of high‑performance additive manufacturing. The first machine to emerge from this partnership is the Stratasys Origin® One, a purpose‑built system engineered for production‑grade parts.
Powered by Origin’s proprietary Programable PhotoPolymerization (P3™) technology, the Origin One delivers unmatched accuracy, repeatability, and cycle times. Its precision printing capability allows for surface finishes that rival those achieved through injection molding, making it ideal for end‑use applications.

Origin expanded the first model’s build volume and integrated a suite of hardware and software upgrades that enhance usability, maintainability, performance, and throughput. Cloud‑delivered firmware updates will keep every unit on the latest version, ensuring consistent operation and feature availability.
At launch, the Origin One offers ten fully certified materials sourced from industry leaders such as Henkel, BASF, and DSM. The ecosystem not only supports these materials but also enables customers to develop custom formulations tailored to their specific needs—opening virtually limitless application possibilities.

TE Connectivity, a global leader in connectors and sensors, was among Origin’s first adopters. Working closely with Origin and Henkel, TE produced an aerospace‑grade photopolymer that passed stringent environmental tests. The company now manufactures thousands of parts, including the 369 Series connector holder—a 3D‑printed component that keeps connectors securely mated inside aircraft.
“Our focus has been on achieving double‑digit micron accuracy for connectors that demand precision. Stratasys and Origin have helped us reach these goals and have demonstrated the feasibility of scaling additive manufacturing to tens of thousands of parts,” said Mark Savage, Global Center of Excellence Leader and Senior Manager of Additive Manufacturing at TE Connectivity.

The Origin One boasts a build volume of 7.55” × 4.25” × 14.57” and can print features as fine as 50 µm. Its ten certified materials span high‑temperature, tough, elastomer, general‑purpose, and medical‑grade options.
