GE’s Wireless Vibration Sensors Boost Reliability at NV Energy’s Ft. Churchill Plant
On October 7, GE Energy unveiled the successful deployment of its Bently Nevada Essential Insight.mesh wireless condition‑monitoring system at the Ft. Churchill Operating Station in Yerington, Nevada. The technology expands real‑time vibration monitoring to a broad range of essential assets that were previously under‑served, enhancing plant reliability and efficiency.
By eliminating the need for manual, walk‑around inspections, the wireless solution enables continuous data collection from pumps, fans, and other critical equipment. This seamless data flow feeds directly into GE’s System 1 diagnostic platform, providing plant‑wide analytics that inform smarter maintenance decisions and reduce operating costs.
“We were excited to be the first NV Energy plant to adopt this cutting‑edge technology,” said Greg Bushman, plant manager at Ft. Churchill. “Bently Nevada has been our trusted partner for critical asset monitoring, so extending it to essential equipment felt like a natural progression.”
Initial results have already identified vibration anomalies in cooling‑water pumps, prompting timely repairs and preventing potential downtime. With the system’s success, NV Energy is now evaluating broader applications, including remote deep‑well pumps and cooling towers.
Brian Palmer, Vice President of GE Energy, Optimization and Control, added, “Our long‑standing collaboration with NV Energy continues to thrive as we deliver solutions that meet their operational and training needs.”
