Renesas Launches RX66T 32‑Bit MCU Family, Boosting Motor Control Performance by 2.5×
Renesas Electronics today unveiled the RX66T family, the first 32‑bit microcontrollers in its flagship RX line powered by the new third‑generation RXv3 CPU core.1
The RXv3 core delivers up to 2.5 times the performance of earlier RX models, achieving a best‑in‑class 928 CoreMark2 score at 160 MHz. This speed boost translates into more precise inverter control and tighter real‑time performance, a critical requirement for modern motor‑driven systems.
Designed for industrial automation, the RX66T can manage up to four motors simultaneously, making it ideal for conventional motor control as well as multi‑axis applications in compact robots, smart factory equipment, and domestic appliances such as air conditioners and washing machines.
With its extra processing headroom, developers can embed AI algorithms directly on the MCU. Real‑time motor‑fault detection—based on current waveforms or vibration signatures—helps identify fault locations, enhancing safety, reliability, and overall productivity.
The MCU incorporates a 5‑V power supply that delivers excellent noise tolerance, and its Trusted Secure IP—validated by CAVP certification—enables secure firmware updates and encrypted communication for end‑points that require lifelong IoT connectivity.
The RX66T lineup includes 80 variants with pin counts from 64 to 144 and on‑chip flash ranging from 256 KB to 1 MB. Mass production has begun for the widely used 100‑pin package, offering 256 KB or 512 KB of program flash and 64 KB of SRAM, with additional versions scheduled for release.
