Renesas RX65N MCUs Earn Amazon FreeRTOS Qualification for Secure IoT Solutions
Renesas Electronics has confirmed that its RX65N series of 32‑bit microcontrollers has earned qualification for Amazon FreeRTOS on AWS. The certification gives embedded developers a turnkey, end‑to‑end path to secure IoT solutions for sensor‑driven endpoints. With Wi‑Fi or Ethernet connectivity, an RX65N‑based board can stream data, and operators can monitor and control devices—such as smart meters, building automation, or industrial equipment—from a PC‑based dashboard.
Developers can accelerate their work using the RX65N Renesas Starter Kit. The kit ships with an RX65N MCU that features 2 MB of on‑chip flash, an integrated LCD display, a built‑in debug emulator, and the e² studio IDE. Sample firmware that is already qualified for Amazon FreeRTOS runs out of the box, allowing teams to edit, debug, and validate their own applications quickly. Once the device is cloud‑connected, it can leverage AWS’s full suite of services, or retain local processing with AWS IoT Greengrass.
Security is a core focus of the RX65N family. Dual‑bank flash memory enables safe, over‑the‑air firmware updates and supports background operation (BGO) and the SWAP function. This architecture simplifies in‑field updates for system integrators, ensuring that devices can evolve securely without downtime.
The microcontrollers also incorporate a Trusted Secure IP block—an integrated hardware security engine that offers hardware‑accelerated cryptography (AES, 3DES, SHA, RSA) and a true random number generator. Coupled with a protected boot area, the Trusted Secure IP driver guarantees that only authenticated code can run, giving customers confidence that their IoT deployments remain tamper‑resistant.
