ams has unveiled the AS7341, a miniature spectral sensor chip that delivers laboratory‑grade, multi‑channel color analysis directly in portable devices. In smartphones and accessories, the AS7341 provides more accurate spectral measurements across a wider range of lighting conditions than competing chips, while its tiny footprint makes it easy to integrate into mobile hardware.

Consumers benefit from sharper, more true‑to‑color photos. The sensor’s precise spectral data power advanced auto white‑balance, reliable light‑source identification, and built‑in flicker detection. It also enables accurate color matching—for example, matching fabric hues to PANTONE® standards.

The AS7341’s impact is evident in Variable’s Spectro 1T portable colorimeter, which offers professional‑grade spectral curves at 10 nm intervals from 400 nm to 700 nm, all at a fraction of the cost of traditional spectrophotometers.

Housed in a 3.1 mm × 2.0 mm × 1.0 mm LGA package, the AS7341 is an 11‑channel sensor. Eight channels sample evenly spaced visible‑light bands; a near‑infrared channel, a clear channel, and a dedicated 50 Hz–1 kHz flicker detection channel complete the suite, delivering highly accurate characterizations of light sources or reflective surfaces.
