Flex Power Modules Unveils BMR490 DC‑DC Converter with Active Current Sharing for High‑Performance Data Centers

Flex Power Modules has unveiled the BMR490 DC‑DC converter, featuring advanced active current sharing that allows two or more units to run in parallel. This capability delivers higher power on a single rail and improves redundancy—critical for demanding datacom applications.

Up to six BMR490 modules can be paralleled. When combined with OR‑ing diodes, the arrangement offers fault‑tolerant redundancy, ensuring continuous power even if one or more converters fail. If redundancy is not required, the converters can operate in parallel without OR‑ing diodes, boosting overall efficiency.

In contrast to traditional droop load sharing (DLS), the BMR490 achieves superior thermal balance between the load and sharing units thanks to its precise active current sharing. Each module can deliver up to 1260 W in parallel mode across the full input voltage range, with only a 200 mV droop at full power and nominal input.

The BMR490 is a non‑isolated, compact quarter‑brick converter (58.4 × 36.8 × 14.5 mm). It provides up to 1300 W of output power, accepts a 40 V–60 V input, and outputs 12 V. The converter boasts a typical efficiency of 97.3 % at 53 V in and half load, made possible by the industry’s first parallel‑able Hybrid Regulated Ratio (HRR) module.
