New Shin‑Etsu LSRs: Optical Clarity for LEDs and Nylon‑Bonding Self‑Adhesive Technology

Shin‑Etsu Silicones of America has introduced two advanced liquid silicone rubber (LSR) formulations that address emerging market needs. The first, commercially identified as X‑34‑1972‑3, delivers exceptional optical clarity while maintaining a Shore A hardness of 70. This grade is engineered for high‑precision optical components, such as LED lenses, and was showcased at Lightfair in Philadelphia where it was molded into custom eyewear.

The second release, X‑34‑4172, is the company’s inaugural self‑adhesive LSR specifically engineered to bond reliably to nylon‑12 substrates. With a 40A Shore hardness, it provides a robust yet flexible interface that has already been adopted in the production of a cutting‑edge respiratory device.
