Markforged Unveils Metal X at CES 2017: Revolutionizing High‑Strength 3D Printing
At CES 2017, Markforged showcased its latest breakthroughs, featuring the Mark Two, Mark X, and Onyx Series alongside striking demos of high‑strength 3D‑printed components. The event highlighted how our printers have consistently bridged the gap between concept and prototype since 2014, delivering cost‑effective, functional parts overnight with superior engineering properties—impact resistance, a high strength‑to‑weight ratio, and heat tolerance.

Introducing the Metal X, Markforged’s first Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing (ADAM) machine, we added true metal 3D printing to our expanding material lineup. The Metal X fabricates parts layer‑by‑layer using a metal powder bound in a polymer binder. After printing, the binder is removed and the part is sintered, eliminating the layer‑to‑layer anisotropy typical of many 3D‑printed metals and producing isotropic, fully dense metal components.

Complex, high‑strength metal parts—such as injection‑molded tooling or precision tool steel—often require long lead times and costly machining. The Metal X’s ADAM process removes these barriers, enabling rapid production of intricate molds, custom tooling, and functional prototypes with the strength of traditional metal fabrication but at a fraction of the cost and time.
