Industry Pushes for National Aviation Maintenance Technician Day to Celebrate Experts
Congressional momentum builds for a National Aviation Maintenance Technician Day, as H. Res. 444 has cleared the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and will move to the House floor this fall. Following a House vote, the Senate will consider the measure before it reaches the President.
The resolution, backed by the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA), proposes a dedicated day to honor Charles E. Taylor—Wright brothers’ first flight mechanic—and all certificated aviation maintenance professionals who keep the skies safe.
PAMA commends Representative Dan Lungren (R‑California), Representative Bob Filner (D‑California), Committee Chairman James L. Oberstar, and all co‑sponsors for steering the resolution toward enactment.
“We deeply appreciate the dedication of PAMA members and the broader community—maintenance teams at American Airlines, the FAA, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association, the Aviation Maintenance Technician Association, and the AMT Society,” said PAMA President Brian Finnegan.
PAMA urges the aviation community to keep the conversation alive, encouraging constituents to contact their congressional representatives to support the day’s establishment.
“We are on the path to passing this resolution,” Finnegan added. “We must not relent until we achieve our goal.”
