Elatec Introduces TCP3: Secure Authentication for USB‑Free Devices

Elatec has launched the TCP3 authentication/release station, a compact network appliance that brings RFID, biometric, PIN pad, and other authentication methods to devices that lack a USB port. The TCP3 supports USB 3.0 and gigabit Ethernet, ensuring high‑speed connectivity.

In today’s workplaces, employee ID badges are often used to authenticate beyond building access, including for multifunction printers. However, many printers and devices do not support direct card reader connections, especially those without USB ports. The TCP3 extends ID‑card authentication—such as for pull printing—to any printer or peripheral, regardless of manufacturer or model.

Designed to keep IT support overhead low, the TCP3 requires only a single network drop from its Host port. It features two Ethernet connectors: one for the Host and one for the Device. The Device port lets you connect a printer or other peripheral without a second network drop.

While the TCP3 is ideal for secure printing, it can also serve as an access control gateway for equipment that demands specialized operator training or certification—like advanced manufacturing machinery. The station forwards ID‑card data to the appropriate authenticator, unlocking the equipment securely.
