TDK Launches HVC 4420F: Integrated 64 KB Flash Motor Controller with Advanced Diagnostics for Automotive Smart Actuators

TDK extends its Micronas portfolio with the HVC 4420F, an embedded motor controller that combines 64 KB of flash memory and 4 KB of SRAM with a suite of diagnostic features designed for modern automotive smart actuators.

The expanded memory enables OEMs to implement sophisticated diagnostic routines—such as sensor‑data fusion, actuator‑status monitoring, and event logging—without adding external processors. By leveraging the controller’s built‑in diagnostic engine, developers can embed data‑analysis logic that aligns with OEM integration guidelines, ensuring reliable operation in safety‑critical environments.

The HVC 4420F belongs to Micronas’ high‑voltage controller family, which fuses an ARM Cortex‑M3 core with a comprehensive set of peripherals. Its 32‑bit CPU, 64 KB flash, and embedded timers, counters, interrupts, multichannel ADC, SPI, and diagnostic PWM modules make it ideal for compact, cost‑effective automotive designs.

Additional features include a LIN 2.x UART with integrated transceiver, voltage regulators that support 5.4 V–18 V automotive bus voltages, and power‑management modes that reduce standby current. On‑chip analog blocks—comparators, current‑scaling circuits, and a programmable‑gain amplifier—minimise external component count.

With its high processing power, the HVC 4420F can run complex motor‑control algorithms such as Space Vector Modulation for permanent‑magnet synchronous motors, six‑step commutation with sensor feedback, sensor‑less operation, and multiple stepper‑motor configurations.

The controller is shipped with production‑ready firmware that meets ASIL A safety requirements, featuring robust communication, monitoring, and power‑management functions, as well as a user‑friendly configuration tool. This turnkey solution accelerates development and shortens time‑to‑market for OEMs.

The HVC 4420F will debut at Embedded World, with samples available in March 2019 and full production slated for 2020.
